The subject I decided to build a
plan around and diligently make an effort to improve on was finance. As I
searched the words of the apostles on the subject of finance I decided the
first thing I needed to do was to stop spending more then I made on a monthly
basis. This forced my wife and I to positively create a budget or plan of
action with our money, in hopes to rendering some positive results. We also
looked at our debts. The Apostles of the church really stress the importance of
not being in debt. While they say certain debt is okay as long as it is a
modest amount and that it is for education, a house or transportation. We
canceled our credit cards and bought only what we had money for at that time.
Not having a credit card was hard at first because my wife and I both used
credit cards to cash flow our month since we were 18. We would try to payoff
the balance each month, but eventually the balances carried over month after
month until we didn’t even remember what the bills were for. I can now say we no
longer have a credit card, which is very possible for anyone to implement. We
still have a house debt and car loan so these are the next two things to payoff.
As this is all going on we are able to pay for our daughters tuition since we
don’t have the credit card bills coming in every month now. The two other things I did this past month
was pay a full and honest tithe. I have always tried to do my best with tithing
but sometimes it is a struggle. It is hard to give up the money when you can
use it to do worthwhile things. The blessings I have received I think are a
direct result of paying a honest and full tithe. This month I gave a fast
offering as well. I took it out as one of the first things from my paycheck. I
know we are taught to give but this is the first time in a really long time
that we have given. I have made the decision that we will now do this every
month. I think following the counsel given by the General Authority of the
church will only bless our lives.
